Monday the 20th ... 33 Days of School Remaining

OBJ - Students will begin their study of Lord of the Flies by responding to prereading questions about central themes of the story and using an online tool to exchange thoughts, ideas and discuss, etc.

CWoD - STRIDENT

Students who need a few minutes to wrap up the Frankenstein test will have them - if you have not started the test yet, you will have to come take care of it during Indian Hour this week.  I'm here during the second half as soon as I can get over here from lunch.

Today, as we move on to Lord of the Flies, you will need to access the Google doc I shared with you (if you don't have access, see me immediately).  You will read the two quotes in the doc about good and evil and then respond to the 8 questions that follow.  Your responses should be complete with thoughts, explanations, evidence, etc.  You don't have to write an entire essay for each, but you should expect to write roughly a paragraph or so and use the quotes and events from your life to elaborate and support.

Make SURE you include your name or initials (and you can change the color of your font as well) with each response.

As the document grows, read some of what your classmates have to say as well - you don't have to agree ... in fact, in many cases you will not.  It's ok to debate the points of others (politely) within your own responses.  In fact, see the ideas and thoughts of others and reacting to them is much the point of the exercise.

Also, if you found having the e-book on your phone helpful with Frankenstein, you may want to take a moment to download a copy for Lord of the Flies.  Unfortunately there are no free versions this time - but there are cheap ones available.  It would be beneficial to get it downloaded before we need it in class.

There is a free one online - if you save it to your phone, the PDF should show up where ebooks usually do...

Thursday 4/16 - 35 Days Remaining

OBJ - Students will create a personal connection to a central theme in the story Frankenstein through various activities and discussion.  Students will prepare for the Frankenstein EXAM - Friday 4/17.

Sorry I am out today - didn't plan to be, but woke up with a migraine.  Email me if you have any problems or questions with the assignment (richard.davis@sfisd.org) and I will get back to you ASAP.

CWoD - HUBRIS

For the last day in class, we will continue working on the Frankenstein Comic Strip Project - You will create 6 frames(slides) that should provide setting, characters, dialogue, and narration. You should also have a "title" slide that shows your name, chapter, and an original name for your chapter that cleverly foreshadows the events. That's 7 slides total - you should copy and paste art from the Internet. You must include text from the novel as well.  See previous days for additional instructions, examples, and assigned chapters for this work.

We will combine our work as a class to create our own, online, Frankenstein graphic novels.

Tomorrow, we will also test over the novel - review info for the test was on yesterday's blog,  There's a brief multiple choice section worth 40 points and then you'll choose two of the essay topics which will be worth 30 points apiece (responses should be roughly 150 words or 3/4 of a page assuming 8 words per line).  You will be allowed a printed copy of the novel on the test, but no notes or computers, etc.
